Lecture 100 years Peace Palace

Lecture, 5 September 2013 | The Hague, Municipality

On Thursday 5 September, the ‘Haags Gemeentearchief’ starts its lectures series again. Dr. Arthur Eyffinger kicks off with a lecture as part of the celebration 100 years Peace Palace. The lecture starts at 17:30 in the reading room of the Hague Municipallity and will last for about an hour.

For one hundred years the Peace Palace symbolizes the fragile seeking of  justice and peace in this world. This lecture takes us back to the much talked about The Hague Peace Conferences (1899, 1907) that brought new life into our sleepy town and it takes us back to the turbulent history of building the Palace. The speaker illustrates a century of highs and lows in a lively panorama of grand ideas and very human anecdotes.

Dr. Arthur Eyffinger, classicist and legal historian, is the author of numerous monographs on the Peace Palace, The Hague Peace Conferences and international institutions.
