Letter from the Editors

Dear Readers,

This year, we, the editors of the Peace Palace Library Newsletter, will have the pleasure to bring to you once more many international law stories revolving around the activities that will take place in – and around the Peace Palace. We will pay special attention to the outbreak of the First World War in 1914 and as a result dig deep in to the collection of the Library for interesting items. In June, we will report on the commemoration activities in The Hague on the 100th anniversary of the death of Bertha von Suttner, the first women to receive a Nobel Peace Prize in 1905. She died 3 weeks before the outbreak of World War I in her home in Vienna. We will inform you about the international conferences that will take place throughout the year, for instance the Nuclear Security Summit in March. In May, the first European Conference for family lawyers who represent parents in international parental child abduction cases, called LEPCA, will take place in the Peace Palace. In September, a first global forum on statelessness will be held in the Peace Palace. In addition to these events, we will continue our popular news items such as the interviews with library users and other important people in international law, book donations, etc. Of course, we are always open to hearing suggestions from our readers on how to improve the content or ideas on interesting news stories. In case you have a suggestion or idea for a story, please contact us at:
