Invitation for an extra Peace Palace Library Lecture on Nicholas Roerich, Artist and Lawyer, Founder of the 1935 Roerich Pact for the Protection of Cultural Heritage in Times of War and Peace, Tuesday, 13 May 2014, 17.00 – 18.00 in the Library and Academy Building of the Peace Palace.
Nicholas Roerich attended the Academy of Arts and the St. Petersburg University, was nominated as recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, established the Himalaya Institute and the Roerich Pact. His fascinating life was a quest for the achievement of meaning and moral ideals.
Olga de Kort-Koulikova, a specialist in Russian cultural and music history, will lecture on the contribution of Roerich to the cultural history of the twentieth century, his conceptions on art and philosophy, his approach to culture and his work as an artist (archeologist, painter , stage- and costume-designer for theatre, opera and ballet).
An exhibition on Roerich, in the foyer of the Library and Academy Building, shows vividly the topics to be addressed by Olga de Kort-Koulikova.
