Invitation to the Peace Palace Library Commemorative Lecture
In honor of Bertha von Suttner (1843-1914)

The Peace Palace Library is pleased to present the Commemoration Lecture ‘Bertha von Suttner; ‘A Peaceful Warrior in The Hague’, on June 24, 2014.
This month marks the centenary of the death of Bertha von Suttner, the 19th century Austrian peace activist, bestselling author of ‘Die Waffen Nieder’ and the first female recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905. During her life, Bertha von Suttner became one of the leading figures in the international peace movement and played a significant role in helping the Peace Palace come in to existence. Last year, during the Peace Palace Centenary celebrations, the Dutch Carnegie Foundation honored Bertha von Suttner for her important role in the history of the Peace Palace with two busts, one in the main hall of the Peace Palace and a second bust in City Hall as a gift to the municipality of The Hague.
The Peace Palace Library cordially invites everyone to attend this commemoration lecture to celebrate her life, her work and her legacy.

18.45 Remarks by Dr. Anne Synnøve Simensen, Norwegian author of the book ‘Kvinnen bak fredsprisen: historien om Bertha von Suttner og Alfred Nobel’ (2012).

To attend this lecture, registration as well as an admission fee of 5 Euro is required. We kindly request you make the payment in cash on the day of the event at the Peace Palace Reception desk.
