A successful international law journal! Almost 800 articles have been published and the list of authors offers a who’s who in the field of international law, with a focus on international legal theory and dispute settlement and prevention. The special section “Hague International Jurisprudence” underlines the ties with The Hague, legal capital of the world. In her editorial Editor-in-Chief Larissa van den Herik commemorates the old days of the journal and ponders about the future. The Peace Palace Library has received the Persian translation of Hugo Grotius’ famous book:
“Mare liberum” : Dary¯ai ¯az¯ad = Mare liberum (The Free Sea), from chapter 12 of De Indis (De jure praedae commentarius) / H¯ug¯u Gr¯usy¯us ; transl. [from the Persian] by Hossein Piran and published in 2011 by the Sharh-e-Danesh Insitute of Law Research and Study in Tehran.
Mr Piran who is Senior Legal Advisor at the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague, and a longtime client of the Peace Palace Library, kindly donated this book to the library.Read more
Dr. Ruth Bettina Birn is a historian. Between 1991 and 2005, Dr. Birn was chief historian of the war crimes and crimes against humanity division in the Canadian Justice department. Dr. Birn carried out extensive research on the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Her research mainly focussed on the use of evidence and the historical background of the trial. When asked how she feels about the Peace Palace Library Dr Birn stated that ” Moving to The Hague in 2005, I discovered the Peace Palace Library. Its world-class collection nourishes me daily and expands my knowledge of transitional justice. A new home away from home. ”Read more
In order to develope into a digital library the Peace Palace Library is offering a multitude of e-resources: e-journals, e-books and electronic (legal) databases. Those e-resources are only available inside our Library.
As we speak quite a lot of periodicals and books are available on paper and online as well.Read more
The last week of January 2012 the e-book “Compensation and restitution in investor-state arbitration : principles and practice / Borzu Sabahi”, recently published by Oxford University Press, was used, looked at or read quite a lot (more than 5 times) in our reading room.
