Peace and Security Salon: Irregular Migration to Europe and Human Rights

The Peace Palace Library has the pleasure to invite you for the second Peace and Security Salon on irregular migration to Europe. The Salon is part of a new lecture series of the Peace Palace Library on Peace and Security issues. The salon will discuss the migration policy and the human rights of migrants from a European perspective. The focus will be on the legal, political and sociological challenges of managing irregular migration to Europe.

Time: Thursday 15 October 2015, 19.30 – 22.30 hrs (doors open at 18.30)

Venue: Peace Palace, Academy Building, Carnegieplein 2, 2517 KJ, The Hague

Entrance fee: 7, 50 euro

The Salon will take place in an informal setting with room for discussion. The language will be English.

Professor Thomas Spijkerboer

Professor Thomas Spijkerboer, professor of Migration Law at VU University Amsterdam

Thomas Spijkerboer is professor of Migration Law at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has specialised in Dutch, European and international asylum law, gender issues in migration law, and in procedural aspects of international and domestic migration law. Thomas Spijkerboer is editor of the European Journal of Migration and Law.

 

 

Christel Oomen

Christel Oomen, specialist in Migration Policy, Research, Development, and Monitoring and Evaluation at Farsight

Christel Oomen is a specialist in Migration Policy, Research, Development, and Monitoring and Evaluation at Farsight. She has worked for various governmental and nongovernmental organizations on migration within the context of human rights, humanitarian issues, human trafficking, refugees, internal displacement, and resettlement.

Marcin Pruss, policy officer of the European Commission

Marcin Pruss is a policy officer of the European Commission. He works for the department Migration and Home Affairs.

 

 

The Peace and Security Salon will be introduced by Jeroen Vervliet, director of the Peace Palace Library.

Lisa-Marie Komp, Lawyer GMW Advocaten, The Hague, Immigration Law Practice  

Lisa- Marie Komp is a lawyer at GMW Advocaten in The Hague. She is part of the Company and Insolvency section and is also active in the field of immigration law. Komp also works as a PhD researcher at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.
