  • Centre 2018 : International Inspections

    The 2018 Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations has started this week for a period of three weeks. The Centre is designed to bring together young international lawyers of a high standard from all over the world, to undertake original research on a common general theme which is determined each year by the Curatorium of the Academy. Theme this year: International inspections. The usefulness of ‘international inspections’ is recognised in many areas of international law: in one way or another, inspections form part of international legal regimes in fields as diverse as international economic law (World Bank Inspection Panels), international environmental law (MEA), disarmament (IAEA, OPCW, etc.), the law of the sea (e.g. Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources), human rights and international dispute settlement.

  • Fifty Years of Space Law– Space Law in 50 Years

    The 2017 Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations has started for a period of three weeks. Theme this year: Fifty Years of Space Law– Space Law in 50 Years. In the first part the current lex lata will be described, first of all from the perspective of basic concepts and secondly from the perspective of specific forms of application/as applicable to space activities. This first part shall make evident the development that international space law has gone through up to 2017. The second part of the contribution shall underline how the rules applicable to human activities in outer space could develop in the coming 50 years. The Peace Palace Library has prepared a selective bibliography on this topic.

    Last week, the 2015 Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations has started for a period of three weeks. The Centre is designed to bring together young international lawyers of a high standard from all over the world, to undertake original research on a common general theme which is determined each year by Curatorium of the Hague Academy. The research undertaken during the Centre is included in a collective work published by the Academy. Theme this year: Access to Individuals to International Justice. The aim is to cover both theoretical and practical aspects, with regard to a variety of situations and contexts.

  • New Publication: La criminalité en mer = Crimes at Sea

    The Centre for Studies and Research of the Hague Academy devoted its Session in 2012 to the issue of ‘Criminal Acts at Sea’. The present volume includes some of the outstanding products of their work. The chapters in this volume underscore the common challenges in international co-operation at the level with respect to crimes at sea identify a number of the potential shortcomings of the applicable international law.

    On Monday 20 August 2012 the Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations of the The Hague Academy of International Law will start. The Research Programme of this year is concerned with criminal acts at sea. Together with the two Directors of Studies of the research programme for 2012, Dr. Kimberley N. TRAPP (Lecturer at Newnham College, University of Cambridge) for the French-speaking section and Dr. Efthymios PAPASTAVRIDIS (Lecturer at University of Thrace and Research Fellow at Academy of Athens) for the English-speaking section, the participants will concern themselves with the various aspects of law which are related to criminal acts at sea.
