  • Just Peace Festival: Open Doors Day 2016

    On September 25, the Peace Palace Library took part in the festivities of the Just Peace Festival by organizing the Open Doors Day. The Library and the Carnegie Foundation have been actively involved since 2014 when the Just Peace Festival first took place to celebrate the UN Day of Peace. During the Peace Weekend, the Peace Palace was the setting for numerous activities ranging from musical concerts, film screenings, scavenger hunts, interactive sessions and presentations in the Library. Throughout the day,over 130 people visited the Reading Room where they could learn more about the rich history of the Peace Palace as well as have an exclusive look at some of our oldest prints, special collections and materials from the Archives.

  • Exhibition ‘The Hague and the Atlantic Wall: War in the City of Peace’

    At the new exhibition in the Museon the visitor becomes acquainted with the history of the construction of the Atlantikwall in The Hague. The exhibition also links the importance of current issues in the area of freedom, democracy and the rule of law to its narrative by amply illuminating the new position of The Hague as the international city of Peace and Justice.

    The Great War in Posters: Communication Instrument and Work of Art

    World War I Poster Exhibition: 14 November 2014 – 12 January 2015, Peace Palace, Main Hall. World War I meant an important new role for the poster: propaganda. The posters produced during the war were part of the largest military campaign ever. They were used raising money for the war, get young men to enlist, provoking enemy states but also to support the wounded soldiers. The main intention was to bring the public closer to the war.
