Investment Protection: ISDS or ICS?
mai 26, 2016In the 1990s, European member states have concluded about 200 bilateral investment treaties (BITs) with Eastern European countries. For example, the Netherlands has BITs with Poland, the Baltic States, Slovakia and Czech Republic. Now most of these Eastern European countries are member states of the European Union themselves, the European Commission wants to put an end to the intra-EU bilateral investment treaties (BITs): agreements concluded between EU member states. If these agreements are terminated, there is a risk that European investors will not be strongly and adequately protected under the provisions currently included in the single market.

About 120 people attended the evening, hearing lectures and participating in discussions on international trade and the present negotiations of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement between the European Union (EU) and the United States of America (USA).

octobre 29, 2015During the G8 Summit in June 2013, the United States of America and the European Union, the world’s leading economies, launched talks of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP): a proposed international trade and investment agreement. The TTIP is said to create the world’s largest free trade area and to boost both US and EU economic growth. The TTIP will also create extra jobs, as well as cheaper products and services. Additionally, there will be more commercial interaction between the US and the EU.
