  • Celebrating International Criminal Justice Day : Judge Monageng Visits.

    On July 17th, 2015, The Hague Academy of International Law and the Peace Palace Library celebrated International Criminal Justice Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute. The highlight was a conversation with former International Criminal Court (ICC) Vice President Judge Sanji Mmasenono MONAGENG and Hague Academy of International Law students to discuss her work and thoughts on justice. At the beginning of her speech, Judge Monageng said International Criminal Justice Day “unites people like you and me who wish to support justice, who wish to promote human rights… and who wish to help prevent crimes that threaten the peace and security of this world.” After the session, attendees were photographed with signs for the #JusticeMatters campaign, and the day ended with a free showing of the documentary film ‘Burden of Peace’.

    Celebrating International Justice Day

    On July 17th, the Peace Palace Library and the Hague Academy of International Law organized a small event to celebrate International Justice Day. It was the first time, that a special event was held in the Peace Palace to mark this day. For this special occasion, we invited Dr. Cyril Laucci, legal advisor from the International Criminal Court, to speak to the students. A lively interactive session took place in which students passionately debated their questions and concerns relating to issues in international criminal law.

  • International Criminal Law

    International criminal law is the part of public international law that deals with the criminal responsibility of individuals for international crimes. A distinction can be made between international crimes which are based on international customary law and therefore apply universally and crimes resulting from specific treaties which criminalize certain conduct and require the contracting states to implement legislation for the criminal prosecution of this conduct in their domestic legal system.
