    New Membership Fee and Library Services

    Due to a change in Library policy, we will be changing our annual membership fee to 30 euro. As of July 1, the well-known full annual library membership will cost 30 Euro. A full membership fee will provide borrowing and consultation privileges to all our classic materials such as books, journals and other documentation. However, we are taking the opportunity to broaden our Library services regarding our online resources. These digital Library resources will also be accessible from outside the Library for 30 euro library individual members. In addition, we are introducing a one-day membership card for 5 Euro as of July 1. This card will be valid from the moment of application and provides access to all materials available for consultation as well as to our online resources. Online access to our electronic resources with a one-day membership card is only possible from inside the Library. Borrowing privileges are not included with a one-day membership card.

    Library User in the Spotlight: Jimena Viveros

    June 30, 2015

    Jimena Viveros studied law at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, and half of the programme at the University of Salamanca in Spain. She further completed her Master’s in Public International law at Leiden University. It was during the latter that she often visited the Peace Palace Library, especially during her master thesis writing period. Viveros emphasizes the enormous amount of bibliography that the Peace Palace Library offers. Plus, she mentioned that the Peace Palace holds premises of extraordinary beauty to indulge her sight that also serves as a calm refuge guaranteed to boost everyone’s legal creativity.

  • New Annual Membership Fee and New Library Services

    Dear Library Visitors,
    As of July 1, 2015, the Peace Palace Library has adopted a new annual membership fee of 30 euro. In addition, we will also offer the possibility of purchasing a one-day membership card for 5 euro. This card will be valid from the moment of application and provides access to all materials available for consultation as well as to our online resources. Online access to our electronic resources with a one-day membership card is only possible from inside the Library.

    The Peace Palace Library is proud to announce the launch of our new services as of July 1, 2015. From this date on, we would like to bring digital information directly to you from any location in the world. This new remote access service enables our users to access our online sources with only a Library card number and password. On our homepage, you will find a link ‘Remote login access’. Click this link and log in with your Library card username and password. The Peace Palace Library sincerely hopes that these new services will help you with your legal research and professional work.

    Database: Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law

    The Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law (MPEPIL) is a comprehensive online resource containing over 1600 peer-reviewed articles on every aspect of public international law. It has been re-designed to improve the look and feel of the site, and the search functionality. Written and edited by an incomparable team of over 800 scholars and practitioners, published in partnership with the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, and updated throughout the year. All included articles are peer-reviewed and treat international law from a global/regional perspective. This major reference work is essential for anyone researching or teaching international law.

  • Accessing the Wealth of Information through Databases

    The Peace Palace Library is known as one of the leading legal libraries in the world and one of the services it provides for its users is access to a growing number of databases, invaluable tools for legal research. The efforts to introduce access to these databases in the Library started several years ago and they have been growing. These databases, around 85 of them now in 2015, are an incredibly rich resource and by investing some time and a little bit of effort, the user can maximize their value. This month, Iva Vukusic, a PhD student and journalist writes a review on our collection of databases with a special focus on our most popular database ‘Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals.
